Human trade, slave markets, the buying and selling of people – to most of us these words bring back the images of a brutal and distant past. But to the countless women, men, and children trafficked every year, these words coldly define the horror of their lives. Trafficking is a global phenomenon where victims are sexually exploited, forced into labor and subjected to abuse. It is a crime under international law that requires international cooperation to address. Read more..

Kala Clark entered the foster care system at the age of 12. Her brothers stayed back with her biological parents and Kala had difficulty in meeting them. So, she sought a court order to force visitation but soon realized that a judge could not grant her such an order under the Maine Law. She decided to do something about it. “Taking action can start small and come in different forms. Even standing up for the kid getting bullied on the playground can make a difference.” she says.

  • There are approximately 1.4 million non-profits registered in the United States.

  • In 2007, total private giving in U.S reached $306.39 billion, more than doubling over last 10 years.

  • In 2006, 26.7 percent of adults in the U.S. said they volunteered through an organization.

  • Volunteers spent a total of 12.9 billion hours volunteering in 2006.
